FAQ

Why is Hollywood calling this Hollywood?

The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named for its Los Angeles location, also known as Hollywood at that time.

Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. It was a place that people would travel from all walks of the globe to experience.

Hollywood is still an integral part of American culture. We have movies and television shows, music videos, commercials and so on. All of them are called "Hollywood."

What is the average salary of actors?

For independent films, the average salary for an actor is less than $100,000. Most actors get between $10,000-$20,000 per film. Many actors aren't paid. It depends on how successful they are. Some actors are successful and make millions. Others struggle to find work.

Why aren't more filmmakers using crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

Many filmmakers aren't qualified to ask money. They feel they need someone else who can vouch for them.

Because they are still in their infancy, they do not believe that anyone should invest.

Instead, they spend months working on their project, hoping someone will eventually notice.

They realized that they hadn't prepared properly when they launched their campaign.

Instead of thousands of dollar, they get a handful of donations.

What is the difference among a producer or distributor?

A producer creates the movie. A distributor distributes the movie. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors can buy movies from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.

Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This can mean that different theaters may charge different prices for a movie. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.
