How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old must one be to get a HWOF star

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
